This private residence was the Chequers up until the late 1940's/early 1950's when Harlow New Town was developed. The Chequers then moved to a new building next door and has recently been renamed Mr Q's.

* William was born in 1801 in South Eltham St. James', Suffolk and married, circa 1824, Sarah Woolard from Cheshunt, Hertfordshire. William and Sarah's daughter, Martha married George Clements and they took over the pub after William's death.
